Today I'm posting not really a recipe but a cooking instruction type blog seeing as I was unable to find any real answers when I looked up my question in good old Chef Google. The question (or questions) at hand are can I cook frozen spring rolls/egg rolls in the Tefal ActiFry? Well it would seem the answer is YES. You can in fact cook frozen spring rolls and egg rolls in the ActiFry and I'm here to give you instructions on how!
For this experiment I used store bought frozen mini spring rolls and egg rolls that I found at my (not so local) grocery store. First up the mini spring rolls.
Mini Spring Rolls
- Open up your Tefal ActiFry and pull out the middle pusher arm, you wont be needing this for cooking them (it will just make them fall apart as they defrost due to the heat)
- Remove desired amount of spring rolls from package and place them in the ActiFry. (Don't worry about spacing them out equally or anything just make sure they are in a single layer)
- Close the lid, turn on the ActiFry and set the timer for 13-15 mins
Once the timer goes off you will have wonderfully crispy, hot spring rolls.. and when I say hot I mean you'll want to use a wooden spoon or some tongs to grab those babies because you'll burn your fingers off if you try to pull them out of there without.. I'd also suggest you wait a minute or two before taking a bite, unless you enjoy having your taste buds burnt off then hey dig in. Pair them up with your favorite dipping sauce or eat them plain either way I'm sure they will satisfy that deep fried crunch your looking for without all the extra calories of actually deep frying them..
Egg Rolls
- Open your Tefal ActiFry and remove the arm from the middle.. again like the spring rolls you wont be needing this to cook your egg rolls.
- Remove desired amount of egg rolls from package and place them in the ActiFry (If your using regular sized egg rolls then 5 fit just right with no room for additional egg rolls)
- Close the lid, turn on the ActiFry and set the timer for 25-30 mins
When the timer goes off pull those delicious crispy pockets of yum out of the ActiFry (with a utensil of some sort so you don't burn yourself!) and dig in!
Please note that using longer cooking times will (obviously) lead to crunchier/crispier food. For the spring rolls I cooked them for 13 mins but they could have used a few extra because I prefer mine a little more done and for the egg rolls I cooked them for 30mins and found them to be too crunchy and could have used a little less time, so make sure you adjust the cooking time to your own preferences while still insuring that the insides are cooked thoroughly before eating.
Do you use any oil?
